We have all been tired before. Often, we cannot explain why. One moment we will feel tired to the point where our eyelids force our eyes shut beyond our will. And the next moment, we feel alert and rested. The following strategies should be of help to all of us who want to stay awake or feel slightly more alert. These suggestions are particularly useful to polyphasic sleepers, especially those in the transition period.
Strategies for Staying Awake and Feeling Alert
1. Have Faith In Your Alarm Clocks
We often need to wake up at a designated time. Sleeping through an alarm can lead to explicit negative results. A monophasic sleeper could miss an important meeting and lose his job. A polyphasic sleeper could retard his adaptation period by sleeping more his designated time allocation.
The implicit negative results are arguably even worse. If we do not have faith in our alarm we will not be able to sleep comfortably. If we really do have an important reason to get out of bed at a certain time, we must trust the reliability of our alarm scheme in order to relax and sleep well.
Set several alarms. This way you know that if one fails, your back up will still enable you to attend to your important affairs.
